As part of the global release of the new KR 709-3G drill rig, Skelair International hosted an exclusive launch event which allowed its customer base to see the first machine in the country and afforded the opportunity to provide Klemm with direct feedback on how the model can be localised to meet the unique needs of the UK Market.
Held at Skelair’s head office in Holmes Chapel, the two day event (Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th November 2015) saw over 30 people attend from a wide range of companies, including Berry Piling, Fairway Plant Services, Keller UK, Southern Piling and Van Elle.
Chris Monk, Managing Director, Fairway Plant Services, comments: “The KR 709-3G is long awaited – we already have a number of customers who are interested in the power and performance it has to offer, and as with any Klemm, the quality looks superb. Skelair did an excellent job at organising the event, giving us an open forum with the technical team at Klemm to discuss exactly how the UK requirements can differ slightly from the rest of Europe.”
The new Klemm KR 709-3G model replaces the Klemm KR 709-2 launched to market in 2008. Significantly enhancing European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC conformity, it delivers a major two-step advance to EEC 97/68 Stage 4, respectively USA EPA/CARB TIER 4f.
On show at the launch event was the new Volvo Penta engine, which gives the KR 709-3G 24% more power output at 14% less rpm. Moreover, the exhaust treatment is based upon SCR-only technology.
From a size perspective, at 9825mm x 2400mm x 3015mm, the KR 709-3G has virtually the same footprint as the KR 709-2, yet brings with it a number of enhancements which improve overall usability and performance. For example, operating at a max torque of 48.3kNm and with a max speed of 81rpm, the KR 709-3 delivers significantly greater mechanical drilling power than the earlier model.
With the official launch now complete, Skelair is preparing to introduce the KR 709-3G to its rental fleet – with general availability expected from early January 2016.
John Mayo, Managing Director, Skelair, concludes: “We’re really pleased with the feedback we have received from the UK customer base on the advancements which the KR 709-3G delivers. We were equally pleased by the interactions between Klemm, ourselves and the individuals who attended – it is a rare opportunity to be able to discuss technical aspects in such detail with a broad audience. The machine has now been deployed in our rental fleet and given the demand we have experienced to date – we are already investigating the addition of further ones.”
Everyone who attended the event was given the chance to enter a free prize draw, with Neil Vicars at Bachy Soletanche winning a limited edition Klemm rig Lego set and Brian Kellaher, Keller UK taking home a bottle of bubbly.
